Biopsy of Liver Mets

Has anyone had their liver mets biopsied? Last year, three spots lite up on a pet scan and the surgeon resected my dad's left lobe and ablated the spot in the right lobe. Only the ablated spot was cancer. The other two were scar tissue (after being biopsied). Is it possible to biopsy liver mets prior to surgery?

So did they biopsy them when he was in for surgery? I have no idea if you can biopsy a liver. I have one liver met that I was told was too small to biopsy but I also had a benign spot on my liver that was removed 5 months ago. Now a spot on my liver and some mass by my colon lit up on my pet. I am having surgery Friday but am wondering if that spot is not cancer? Ya got me thinking

I had my liver lesions biopsied with a 7 inch needle (the 5 inch one wasn't long enough) attached to an ultrasound wand. My docs did it to properly stage the cancer and make the intial gameplan. I was awake but under funny meds. The worst part was having to lay in bed 3 hours after the procedure to make sure my liver did not bleed.
