Post-op pain

After completing my treatments and surgery, I have suffered severe pain in my hips. I have a permanant colostomy. Does anyone else have this problem? My pelvic muscles do not work, and suffer from incontinence. I believe it was caused by the radiation.

Pick me! Pick me!
Yes, after all was done, I had my left hip suddenly 'let go' on occasion, with much pain. I was VERY careful, and about 6 months after treatment, my hip stopped hurting, and I have no troubles with it. Have you had a bone DENSITY scan (called a DEXA scan)? Could you be osteoporotic? After my scan, it was determined I was (-2.7)....before the chemo/radiation I was mildly osteopenic (-1.7).
Might be worth doing, so you know, and can start calcium supplements...it would be a shame if after beating the beast, you broke something because of the treatment!
But, also, have you told your doctor about this? He or she may have some tests that go beyond...since incontinence is involved.

Hi. I had rectal cancer: chemoradiation, surgery (APR, resulting in permanent colostomy), then chemo. I did end up with very mild incontinence. Caused by either the radiation or surgery (not sure which). But, I don't have hip pain. KathiM's suggestion for a bone density test is a good one -- I had this done (because the radiation caused instant early menopause, and they wanted a baseline). I was fine. I hope you are able to discuss these concerns with your medical team. Best wishes.0
