Are these possible symptoms ? Please advice !

Hello everybody,

I'm having rectal bleeding since last one yr. and noticing black stools in last 1 or 2 months. Don't have any cramp or pain except very rare burning during bowel movement. I'm a 28 yr old woman..quite confused with all the info. on the net. Does my symptoms match with anybody here ? Any advice is more than welcome.

Hi Skylight,

Please run and not walk, go see a gastroenterologist and have him/her to order a colonoscopy right away for you. The wait can be long, which is why you have to get w/ a doctor right away.

Rectal bleeding is very serious business. No advise should supercede a colonoscopy - it's the only way to know.

Please please call a doctor today! If you're in CA SF Bay area I can even recommend some good doctors.

as jadot said you need to get a scope to be sure. alot of us around here started with bleeding and were told it's hemmoroids(sp). for peace of mind get a scope. this disease has no age,race,financial discrimation. it can effect anyone.

Don't want to scare you, but PLEASE see a gastro doc and get a colonoscopy. It is THE ONLY way to know for sure. Just because you are young, does not mean you could not possibly have colorectal cancer. I am a more classic case (55 at diagnosis) but there are many on this site who were much younger. And, it could be a huge mistake to fall victim to the belief that you couldn't possibly have it because of your age.

Good luck and keep us posted. And please INSIST to whatever GI doc you see that you NEED a colonsocopy.

See how everyone has reacted??? Get you goin', my dear!!! I have a GREAT gastro in the Inland Empire, southern California (she started as an oncologist).
My colorectal cancer was found from bleeding...no pain except from my tailbone (tumor was big enough to be pressing against it).
This cancer is way dependant on how fast it's found and treated. It doesn't care who...not just for 70 year old men anymore!
Please keep fighting, your insurance may be an obstacle, but just be VERY FIRM (threaten with Insurance Board in your state, if necessary).
PLEASE keep us posted!

I was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer last year at age 35 (Does that make me one of the younger ones, Betsy? Because I REALLY want to believe that I'm still young at age 35 ...), and although the doctor said that even with my family history of colon cancer, it is still very rare to be diagnosed with advanced cancer at my age. With that said, there is probably a less threatening explanation for your symptoms but cancer DOES strike younger people and you really, really, really, really need to get a colonoscopy and any other tests suggested by a specialist. Thank u so very much-- can't believe so many of you have responded so fast ! Eleonora gave me this link saying that I would get more responses here,, and i really have. My sincere thanks to her and all of u.

One more question..please bear with me : I had a C-section in last Jan to have my twins. Shouldn't the doctors have noticed anything wrong then only ?

I'm actually having tremendous pain in both legs on a constant basis and sharp pain in the right hipbone or the lumbago sometimes. Feeling vomitting after almost every meal, have so much breathlessness that i can barely talk sometimes, losing hair rapidly- Can it be an extended Thyroid case by any chance --? I know i had thyroid (Hypothyroid) problems before i had babies.

There are already great posts to your concerns but I feel I must add just because of my own age.

I had a small amount of bleeding in 2001 - said to be hemhroids. Bleeding seemed to stop.

I had a large amount of bleeding in Aug 2004. Again, said to be hemhroids because I had zero risk factors, my age (26 at the time) worked against me, and I didn't really have any other symptoms.

I insisted on seeing a second doctor in Sept 2004. She did a very thorough exam and said that while she felt it wasn't going to turn out to be anything serious and could list MANY reasons why I could be having bleeding she couldn't rule anything out without having a scope.

The day after I turned 27 I was diagnosed with Stage III CRC with 1 Node positive. The cancer had been growing for at least 5 years, which would mean that I should have followed my gut (or colon in this case) in 2001 and pushed for a scope. Bottom line, if you are afraid that something is wrong, push to get a scope and answers.

In this day the doctors need to throw the text book out of the window because more and more are getting CRC at a young age... and yes Rodney, you are still young. Most here are dx'd well before the recommended scoping age of 50.

I hope that in your case it turns out to be nothing serious and something that is easily fixed.

Knowledge is power and you will rest much better knowing the results, either way.

Go get checked out immediately!! I, too, had blood in my stools for about six months but like most, I thought it was hemmrroids(sp?) I even looked it up on the internet and was convinced that was the case. I had no other symptoms!! And while I consider myself young to get CC (I'm ONLY 46 LOL), you are much to young to have to worry about whether or not it might be cancer. Go get checked out!!!

I am 29 and was diagnosed with stage 3 cc in Feb. I was losing hair too, from severe anemia. I wasn't bleeding enough that I noticed it, but I was bleeding. my stools were tarry and infrequent, and when I did go to the restroom, I used lamaze breathing to get through it. I finally got to where I couldn't eat, was very nauseated, and in a lot of pain in my abdomen. i am with everyone else... you need to get to the doctor. In my town, I have not personally met anyone else with colon cancer, but in the past few days have discovered that there are at least three others besides me, and all of us are under 40.
