Worried about symptoms I am experiencing
I am 47 years old. I had ovarian cysts when I was in my 30's however, they were functional cysts. I still have my periods. I have severe emphysema, however, my lung doctor has made mention to me during our consult recently that the symptoms I am experiencing, for example, my unwanted/unintentional weightloss, should be checked out by my primary doctor. I was a little disappointed when my primary doctor ignored my lung doctors input and my concern as well regarding my unintentional weight loss and persistent constipation, etc. so, I followed up with a second opinion. Now I have a new primary doctor. My new primary doctor sent me for a CT scan with barium and iodeine. I have not received any results for my CT scan as yet. I had the CT scan last monday or almost a week ago. I assume all must be well with the CT scan or I would have heard word by now.
Anyone here have any suggestions or input? I am still worried and concerned. Possibly I am over reacting.

I don't feel you are 'overreacting'. When a person has symptoms such as yours, there is cause for concern, even though it may be nothing critical. I believe it is negligent on the part of the doctor who ignored the lung doctor's advice.
Even though you have not received word on your CT scan, I would call - you have the right to do so. 'Not hearing anything' is not good enough for me. The weight loss is extreme, as well as your abdominal symptoms, and a year is too long to have been going on like this. If you do not get satisfactory answers with this doctor, I would seek out a gynecologic oncologist. He/she would be more thorough.
Please keep us informed. You have come to the right place for information but, more importantly, support and prayers. We'll be waiting to hear from you!

Tomorrow morning I am going to call and request information about my CT scan results. I was not aware that I had the right to call and request the information. If my new primary doctor is not able to get to the bottom of this fairly quickly I am going to go ahead and make an appointment with a gynecologic oncologist. I live within the Adirondack Park in New York state in a very rural area and fairly limited medical services are available here. I assume I will have to commute to a nearby major city in order to see a gynecologic oncologist, however, from what I understand from reading your post it would be best for me to obtain a consult with one at this time, if my new doctor is not able to get to the bottom of this.
Thanks again, I sincerely appreciate your help and prayers.

Hi there,
The most important thing to do is see a GYN Oncologist. They look at the symptoms with very different eyes. Save the worries till you get more results. I went thru all of this 2 years ago & am here to talk about it.It took a while until the RIGHT DR. found what's wrong. So, keep searching & feel free to ask anything. Good luck, Imoan0 -
Hello,
Thank you very much mopar and imoan for your help and support.
This last month my period lasted twice as long as usual and then I experienced slight spotting for well over a week. This is not usual for me, then again, the many symptoms I have been experiencing-pelvic swelling/firmness; persistent constipation; fatigue, etc. have not been usual for me either.
Today, I followed up and met with my new primary care doctor for my appointment. My doctor stated that my recent CT scan showed some plaque in my arteries and other then the plaque in my arteries there was no mention of any other concerns.
Even though my ct scan did not indicate any tumors/growths my doctor expressed his concern about my weight loss and other sypmtoms and he is sending me for a colposcopy. I assume I will be receiving a telephone call soon regarding the date and time.
I live in a very rural area in up-state New York and specialty doctors are few and far between here in this area. By any chance anyone here happen to know of a gynecologic oncologist in New York or Vermont or how I may go about locating a gynecologic oncologist in the state I reside.
Thanks again, any advise or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks again,
