JUICING RECIPES!
Are you prepared to Rock Your World with your new juicers???
First off I want to say how happy happy happy I am that you all are doing this! You won't regret it. You body will thank you. Juicing veggies helps to keep your body alkaline which in turn helps to either heal your cancer or keep from returning. Remember though, there are never any guarantees for any of us. We just do our best.
Secondly, I cannot stress enough how important it is to use ORGANIC produce. Not only is it free from toxic chemicals, but tests show that organic produce has a higher nutritional output than conventionally grown produce. It has something to do with the soil being depleted of nutrients and minerals when chemicals are used. So if you are going to expend this energy with juicing, then please buy ORGANIC.
Here is my everyday recipe:
3-4 carrots (depending on size)
1 granny smith apple (or whatever you prefer)
1 stalk celery
1 handful parsley
2 kale leaves
1 small chunk ginger (beware of the zing)
add:
2T flax seed (FIBER!!! helps with the glycemic load)
1 T Barleans Greens (or any green powder)
1 T fermented soy protein powder
Ok, I want to underscore how important GREENS are in this equation. It's the greens that really help in the alkalizing department. But, I warn you to start with small amounts and build up your tolerance. I happen to think that my juice is the Nectar of the Gods. My kids call it Swamp Water.
Using carrot and apples as the foundation you can experiment with beets, cabbage, garlic, cucumbers, lemons, spinach.
I've never tried this one but it sure sounds good:
1 med orange, peeled
3 inch chunk fresh pineapple peeled if not organic
1/4 sm or med lemon, peeled if not org.
1-2 inch piece fresh ginger root
here's one called "The Colon Cleanser":
2 org Granny Smith, McIntosh, or Golden Delicious
1 bunch spinach
1 handful parsley
1/4 sm or med lemon
The BEST lemonade is just apples and lemons. Your kids will love it!
scouty has different recipes that she used.
I have never tried cabbage, but I know it was part of her protocol.
I chose the veggies specifically b/c of their digestive properties.....especially the parsley and ginger. Beets are good for liver cleanse but they really pack a punch!
Ihope this helps to get you started.
The book I have is The Juice LAdy's Guide To Juicing For Health by Cherie Calbom, MS
HAPPY JUICING!!!
Please let me know what you end up making and what you like (and don't like).
Hang in there and remember to adjust to your taste buds....they may need some time if you are not used to veggies.
peace, emily who has a huge smile on her face!!!

Goodness there are so many to pick from.....
While attacking my cancer, I did 1 beet (I built up to one a little smaller then my fist), 2-3 stalks of celery, 2-3 carrots, and a wedge of cabbage (alternated green and purple). I drank about 12 oz (about 4 oz of each veggie) twice daily. Beets with their greens are great for the liver!!!!!!!!!!
I also like carrots and oranges together about half and half.
1/2 of a cantalope with skin is good too especially when you are sweaty.
I love tomato juice and found that during the summer when they are fresh, they are great by themselves, or with some spinach, a carrot or 2, a wedge of bell pepper, stalk of celery.
My favorite is straight carrot juice. I love it in the afternoon after exercising.
Another great book by Cherie Calbom is "Juicing for Life". She has juices for everything in it, diarhea, constipation, varicose veins, high blood pressure, about any ailment you can think of......

PS. If using apples, make sure you get rid of the seeds before you juice.0 -
You are one of the "8" wonders of the world Em! If I was a juicer manufacturer I would have you on my "design team"!Lisa Rose said:Thanks Lisa & Emily for the recipes.

Recently, I went to this huge grocery store that had a wonderful huge produce section with alot of organic veggies! Too bad it's an over hour drive, but I will surely be visiting at least once a week there.
I was picking up these veggies and fruits that I've never even seen or heard before! LOL But they tasted soooo good in the juice, along with the apples, carrots, arugula lettuce, ginger, spinach, and parsley. I will definitely look to see what the heck it is next time I go there and write it down, I forgot the names of them LOL...Lots of hybrid veggies out there!
I want to know also how to make some good smoothies, and are you able to make smoothies through the juicer, or is that a blender thing??
Hugsss!

I think you have to use a blender, you can't put bananas in a juicer.
I like bananas, strawberries (all frozen berries, I keep in the freezer, just to keep then on hand) and a Dannon yogurt.....and flax seed. Mix it all up and blend, you can add some crushed ice, but if you use frozen berries you really don't need it. Go fresh when you can.
But really any fruit but I like the banana it thickens it up...0 -

Frozen bananas are the key to a great smoothie. you can add your protein powder and not even taste it.

juiced bananas, it gives a very good banana taste to my juice, not alot of juice comes out, but enough where it sometimes overwhelms the taste of the whole juice, to just taste like a banana lol..
Thanks for the tips on smoothies though! putting in the yogurt sounds yummy!

My dad started juicing for
My dad started juicing for me the day after my dx. He has brought me a few jars almost every day since late July. Lots of beet and carrot based juice with tons of greens. He also has a great apple and pear juice that is great heated for those days when I can't drink anything colder than room temp. - we've all been there. I've asked him to give me the recipe for a few of our favorites. I'll post soon. At first I couldn't drink very much at once, but I've really developed a taste for the jars of red, green and brown "swamp water." My kids love to juice with Grandpa. Only my dad could get a 3 year old to beg for more carrot/beat/kale juice.
Also, Kim's mom gave me one of those massive blenders that Montel Williams has been hawking. I saw the infomercial at 3am one night. The motor on this thing has more power than my lawn mower. I haven't used it as much as my 10 year old daughter has. She loves making smoothies for the family. We buy bags of frozen organic berries. She mixes the berries with a banana and some yogurt, maybe a little wheat germ or flax seed, and get this - she always throws in a few handfuls of baby spinach. The other day she brought me a glass and said, "This is a good day right? You can drink cold stuff? Here, I really want you to drink this. It's really good for you." I try not to cry too much around my kids. It was really hard not to that afternoon.
Does anyone know anything about Keefir? (sp) It's some sort of probiotic that can be added to juice and other recipes - I think.

Your daughter sounds so sweet, Roger. That makes ME want to cry!
Kefir is a fermented milk product (sheep, goat, or cow) that is very similar to yogurt. You can also buy soy or coconut kefir. The main difference between the two is the type of microorganisms (probiotics) used to ferment the milk. Yogurt is fermented with bacteria, while kefir is made from bacteria and yeast. Both are delicious!0 -

I call it my liquid yogurt and it seems to get sweeter as it ages. Peaches were one of the foods my naturopathic doctor told me to eat as often and I could. It was winter so I frozen and the kefir were my options.
It has more calcium than yogurt.
I also loved your stories Roger!!! Thanks for sharing.
