2nd opinion not good

Hello! My husband and I went for my second opinion yesterday with another leading hospital in our area. She had looked over all my med records before our arrival. She explained everything about Mets. and continued to talk about options we have. Unfortunatly the news wasn't good, she was able to tell us that I have Incurable Lung Cancer. Hubby and I agreed we would go ahead and do what was neccesary to slow it down. All next week is full of tests, and the next is when I start Chemo. She doesn't want to wait at on treatments, says it's only going to get worse if we wait. (previous Onc. wanted to wait 2-3 more months for a repeat on PET scan.)This chemo I will be receiving this time is much more aggressive then my last coarse. I will be on treatments for 9 months total as of now, she will test to see if it's working or not in 3 months. If not, I have to increase the dosages and continue with treatments. She seems very concerned due to the fact of my age(38)and my BC was so aggressive and now that it has showed up speratically through out my lungs after only 1 yr. out of BC.

    Hi, Lisa. I just wanted to say that I'm so sorry to hear that the news is not what you were hoping for. But it does sound like you are in good hands and will be getting the most aggressive treatment possible, which is what you want at this point. For my two cents, this second Onc is correct is not wanting to wait to begin chemo. You don't want to give the beast a chance to spread further. While metastatic breast cancer is not curable, there are many people (including quite a few on this board) who have survived many, many years with it. I keep reading where breast cancer in its most advanced stage is now being considered a chronic illness - one that can be successfully treated over the very long term. Good luck to you - we're all rooting for you.

    I know You hated the news of the second Doctor,but it sounds like they are a lot more in tune with You and what is needed for Your survival.I'm so glad You went.Keep us posted,You are in my thoughts and prayers.
