Robotics or Open? Dr Olson or Tewari?

    Hi I had robotic surgery on July 14, 06 with Dr Tewari at Presbyterian Hospital. I cannot say enough how great the Dr Tewari, his staff and the hospital was.
    As far as the operation I was released the day after surgery and I walked 2 1/2 blocks to the medical / hotel where I stay for two weeks. I had my catheter removed 6 days after surgery and was dry from that day after. I wore the small diapers for three days, but never had a leak. The only time I did leak was after a shower the day after the catheter was removed and I blew my nose standing up next to the shower, the floor got a little wet, just learned to sit down to blow nose. Make sure your husband does his Kegels several times a day for at least a month before surgery I did and I think that helped. I was walking three to four miles a day after five to seven days, but get a little more tired. I have hada a problem with severe headaches taking Viagra and wnet down to 1/4 pill every other day. Second week was much better, Your husband will be sore in the bottom area as it is almost three weeks and I am still a little sore. I don't know if anybody else has had this problem but my testicles are extremely sensitive and still hurt.
    As far as errections I have gotten 25 to 30 percent with 1/2 tablet of Viagra but nothing with 1/4 or less. Very disappointing but my wife keeps telling me its early. I am 52 years old. Sex drive is very little nowdays since surgery. I would not have a problem with house guests except that you can't do any lifting and I am some what irritable with the potency issue.
    Da Vinici robotic and laprascopic are two different methods, from what I understand laprascopic is not robotic. Good luck hope this helps.

    Hi Larry. Thanks so much for your help. It sounds as though you are doing very well. My husband says that you are correct--laparascopic and robotic surgery are two different procedures. I understand your frustration with the impotency issue, but from what I read, your wife is correct about the fact that this is still early in your recovery. I hope things continue to go well for you. From what you say I guess I am stuck with the house guests!

    I was dignosed with PC with a PSA of 10.00 and Gleason of 3+4.I am 73.I had RLRP in June.I have very little stress incontinence only.No erections even with Cialis.I am impressed with the surgery.Had no pain.Was ambulant day after surgery.I am mowing the lawn and running on a Nordic Track 1/2 hour every day.I had more morbidity with hernia and TURP many years ago compared to RLRP.It is really minimally invasive.My ist post op PSA will be on 13th of Sept.

    Hi Larry,
    Glad to hear of your success with Dr. Tewari. I have read about him and Dr. Menon who he worked with and felt he would be a good person to step too with the number of robotic prostatectomies he performs. I am 56, have 3 Gleason samples 3+3 and 1 3+4, and PSA of 4. I was wondering how you're doing now, any problems, and since it was alluded to in an earlier posting, did you have any billing issues with Weill Cornell? I am in Virginia and trying to make up my mind about whether it is worth coming to Dr. Tewari or going to someone nearby. Thanks.
