Hi,
I had radiation after already having the implants in. the radiarion worked fine and the cancer has been gone for 4 yrs now...I did have capsular contracture with the implants and that is something that is so individual that they cannot really predict who will have cosmetic problems later on. Having radiation with the implants does not make the radiation less effective, although my docs preferred not to do it, they also said that they can measure the radiation so that it is still just as effective. If there are cosmetic effectes, they can always be remedied afterwards...the main concern is just getting through treatment, everything else kind of goes by the wayside...I wish your sister the best of luck...let her know that the radiation is the least horrible part of treatment, she may get tired, but she can do this!! Sending you and your whole family good vibes bbbbzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz feel it?!
Take care -
I went through rad. last june '05 with inplants and have had no problem with incapsulation. I was also given the advice to put myself on Singular, because it supposedly helps with incapsulation. Being that I have allergies it was not a problem for me. Your tissue on your breast will become firm after rad. That is part of why I gebt a full body massage once a week. When chest muscles tighten it can cause problems with your upper back and posture. Being that I am a personal trainer I did lots of stretching for my chest during and have continued since. They may tell you swimming is not ideal during treatment, but it was a godsend for me to get in the cool water and move my muscles. I went directly after treatment. I also used a mixture of aloe vera gel and Burt's vitamin E oil after. I would be careful the next day to go into treatment clean, washing very lightly with Neutrogian. Cool compresses that I keeped in the refrigerater really helped calm my skin after treatments. Just cool compresses not frozen! Hope this helps. Nina
