anyone treid sandosatin for diarrhea?
He doesn't want to use lomotil-says he's never seen someone who wasn't responsive to imodium have any repsonse with lomotil
i asked him about levbid. he was unfamiliar with it.
i asked about tincture of opium. he said that was a possibility.
but his first choice is sandostatin. it involves giving myself injections which i think i can do with my27 year history of nursing.
just wondered if anyone else tried it. i'll keep you all up to date.

Mary,
I was in hospital twice for dehydration related to severe episodes of diarrhea and received sandostatin both times. I really can't say that it helped much but diarrhea resolved both times. Prior to the chemo treatments we tried long acting sandostatin but it didn't help at all. I took lomotil throughout the treatments as immodium didn't help at all. I felt it worked as wasn't hospitalized any other times. My onc. went along with my wishes when I asked for it although was told it might mess with my "head" - don't think it did. Hope this helps. Mary,
I had tried sandostatin and like you wondered if I could inject myself. I did it, but the results of the sandostatin weren't that great. What seemed to work better was tincture of opium and 8 lomotil a day. You should at least give it a try. Maybe the lomotil alone will work. it does for many people.
I hope you feel better soon.
