Coughing

Ed has had chemotherapy and is now taking 23 sessions of radiation to get rid of the tumor in his esophagus. He's unable to have surgery because of rheumotoid arthritis in his lungs. He has heavy coughing spells which is really wearing him down besides the burning in his esophagus. Anyone else with this problem and any suggestions for relief? Cough drops don't help. Thank you.
