Newly diagnosed 33yr old

Hello, My husband was diagnosed with andenocarcinoma stomach cancer the day before his 33rd birthday. The doctor that performed his endoscopic ultrasound thinks that it is a stage 2 and doesn't see any spread.

We have an appointment at M.D. Anderson in Houston next week and are curious if anyone has gone there and what their experience with that hospital was?
I've been searching the web looking for stories to inspire me... I'm just terrified. We have a 5 year old and a 2 year old.

Last year, my husband's only sister lost her battle with breast cancer at the age of 34, so this is like jumping on a roller coaster again...and really, I've always hated roller coasters.

    Hello lumpling....I had the same cnacer as your husband...mine was stage four...I had my surgery at Sloan Kettering 19 months ago...I know what you are going through.....I am glad to discuss with you or your husband and shed some light on what you may except...by the way there are only two hosipital on the planet equipped to handle any type of cancer Sloan and MD Anderson....They are the best because of the number of patients they see, number of operations they perform, and the number of clinical trials....again I can be reached at ccassar@parkell.com or 1-800-243-7446 ext 153...I too desperately wanted someone to talk to in the beginning so I am glad to help...

    and also the ACOR stomach cancer list group at www.acor.org. You register and sign up to participate in a list group. Once you sign up you have access to the list archives on which there is a lot of helpful information.

    There are a bunch of survivors out there. It is beatable. My best to you both

    My name is Maria and I'm 35yrs old diagnosed with stage 3 stomach cancer. In January I had half of my stomach removed and I'm currently completing my chemo and radiation treatment. I also have a 2.5 and 4 year old. It's been tuff trying to survive and take care of children. How are you doing and your husband?. It's such a scary situation when you have young children. However, it's scary regardless of what it is. Life is so changing when you come across this path. Thinking of you

    Dear Maria,
    I'm so sorry that I didn't reply earlier. I didn't know that your message was here!
    It has now been almost a year since my husband had his surgery and he is just now starting to get some strength back. He's lost about 65 pounds. Unfortunately, last week he came down with Shingles and we found out that he has osteo arthritis in his hip...we can only assume that these are from the chemo and radiation.
    We remain full of hope and take life day by day. In a few weeks we go for his one year checkup with pet scans and biopsies...we travel to Md anderson hospital in Texas for his checkups.
    I hope that you are feeling good and that the chemo/radiation haven't gotten you too down.
    It is so hard with little ones...our three year old doesn't really understand, but our six year old understands too well.
    What part of the world are you in?
