Lung metastases

I have recently learned that I have a recurrance of papillary thyroid cancer. I'm in the twilight zone between diagnosis and treatment and have a million questions.

My first diagnosis was in 1970 at the age of 17. I had been exposed to x-ray treatments for enlarged tonsils around age 4.

My thyroid glad was removed in 1975 and I was treated with I 131.

A recent whole-body thyroid scan shows extensive metastases in both lungs, behind my sternum and in one lymph node.

The internet was not an available resource in the early 70's. I can find lots of information about thyroid cancer in general now. But can find little information about extensive lung involvement and what to expect.

Truth is, I just want to hear there is someone out there that has survived what I'm facing.

I was 17 the first time. I'm 53 now. I was sort of planning to live to 100.

Anyone out there have experience with extensive lung involvement?

    Hello,

You may want to do a search of the website by putting in keywords such as thyroid and lung metastases. If you find someone you would like to contact, you can do so through the internal CSN email system and see if they would like to share their experience. If you need information on how to use the CSN internal email system you can click on the "help" link at the top of the page.

I hope this information is helpful and I wish you well on your treatment.

    Take care and be well,

    Dana
