I have been to a few Cancer Conferences here in Canada and have since learned that there is funding available through our Cancer Society for those needing help. Everyone thinks the Health System is good here, but not every province is equal. I am just fortunate enough to live in the province or I should say move to a province in my Country that has a 27% better success rate with all Cancer compared to the other provinces.
I have had insurance and thank God for that but now would be another story since having to leave my career because maybe it was the very thing making me ill. I have had to go on Long Term and found after almost 30 years of employment that I would not have enough to live on and pay the little I did have to for my medication and then how would I eat. It truly turned out to be only a couple hundred more than someone on our social/welfare program. Go figure. But suppose to be better than nothing even though those on our welfare have everything paid for not having to pay anything out of pocket unlike those of us on insurance.
I am sorry that so many have to struggle with the burdens of living while trying to fight for their lives. Sometimes we really have to go outside medical community to find the help that we need.
There are still alternative things out there that can help and I have had to find a few since the doctors left be believing that I would be an invalid but like so many others out there, I too have proven them wrong. Hope comes in all sorts of ways and we have to be open to it as well. I hung on to a few things while I fought for my life and one was a simple saying, "WHERE THERE IS A GARDEN THERE IS HOPE".
I too had to accept the facts and one big one was what I had been doing wasn't working or the BIG C wouldn't have been my demise. So much changed for the good and the bad not my reality anymore. I am so glad that this line of support exists because there is an avenue for us all to see what survivors really do look like and getting to know their stories is such a key to our own.
Be good to yourselves always,
Tara

    Hi Tara,

Long time, no see. Glad to hear from you, but not glad for your troubles. Right now my husband and I are going through complications with insurance. The company he worked for just up and decided to discontinue benefits for the whole company, without any notice. Since they discontinued coverage for the entire company COBRA is not available. I am applying to another insurance company right now, but no one is sure exactly what will happen as I am Stage IV. It is quite a mess, but I am trusting God. One major blessing is that this has happened after my major treatment is done. I am doing great and feel terrific.

Good to hear from you and keep us posted on your search for answers and help.

    God Bless,
    Kathy
