Hi
My husband has lung mets due to rectal cancer. The lung mets were first detected in October 2003 and up until three days ago, have never presented with any symptoms, pain or coughing. On Saturday, he started coughing a lot and it has continued through today. I am listening to him try to go to sleep, but he keeps coughing and coughing. I don't know if it is due to the lung mets, or if there is something else going around. Here's a stupid question: should his oncologist treat him for this or should his regular internist? Also, what kinds of treatment is there for coughing associated with lung mets? I don't really know if it is the lung mets causing this - it came on really suddenly.

    I have lung mets too and got a nasty cough in February. Mine was from broncitis/pneumonia. My primary care doctor is closer then my onc so I went there for confirmation. I would call his oncologist first and ask them. They should be able to tell you whether his lung mets could cause such a thing (it's all about location of the lung mets). Also, it is spring in alot of areas and it could be allergies or pollen irritation.

    The Onc will probbly refer to an internist or pulmonologist(sp) anyway..meanwhile, there is probably something over the counter for temporary
