It's me again to annoy everyone with another question. I still, 5 weeks after last chemo, have muscle pain in my thigs when I first get up out of chair or walk alot or stand still. It is getting better and I don't feel weak in the legs anymore but the pain is still there, also in the back of my knees. Does anyone have any idea what causes this. I have myself convinced it is bone cancer and am slowly falling apart mentally. It seems I had a better attitude when I first was diagnosed and I am trying to get it back but it isn't easy. God, I hate this diasease.

    Hi,
Not knowing what kind of chemo you had....it may not be the same as me, but thought I'd tell you that I had my last treatment on 7-7-04 and still have muscle/joint pain. Hey and getting out of a chair....whew. I moved to a chair in our house that sets up higher and then I can get out of it easier. I'm getting better, but it's taking a long time. Patience seems to be the key word here. I returned to work about 3 months ago and take pain meds in order to function at work. My job is physically demanding. I also went and bought a pair of shoes that the store recomended as the most comfortable walking shoes. My old stand-bys didn't feel comfortable any more. These two things have helped alot.

May be due to lack of inactivity, muscles getting used to being used again. Could be tamoxifen or femara if your on one of those drugs, but to be perfectly safe and quit driving yourself nuts I'd talk to doc and ask for x-rays or bone scan. You know your body listen to it.

    Hi!
My onc said it was normal to have aches, pains and weakness during/after chemo (A/C, taxol). They will go away eventually.
I was really sore and weak after chemo - could not walk up a flight of stairs without stopping several times because of weakness and pain. I'm about 10 weeks out of chemo and I'm doing much better - I've been walking every day. I started about 6 weeks ago. It was VERY VERY tough at first, but it's made a huge difference. My knees are still sensitive, but I think they'll come around. It's really amazing because I was considering getting a cane to use - I was that sore and weak. I felt like I was 95, but I'm only 44! Walking really helped me, and I was very skeptical about exercise making a difference. I think I may have felt better after chemo if I had been more active during, but I just wasn't up to it.

I too have terrible muscle and joint pain. I also have a nerve disease called, charcot maorie tooth. It is degenerative nerve disease. Most people don't know they have it.I am irish and have high arch . adriamycin and taxol caused me permanent nerve damage. I can barely feel my feet and hands. I work all day in lumberyard and i almost can't get out of my car at nite. I am 42 and finished chemo 08/04. Dr's just keep saying take pain pills, well I don't like them, make me sleepy.

    Barb,
I have the VERY SAME pain you have. In my upper thighs and in the back of my knees! Did you ever find out what the deal is?
Glenda (thanks for making me feel "not alone")
