surgery date for lung met
Thanks for the support after my last post. Here's an update.
(Short hx: I was dx with rectal cancer Dec 02. Radiation then surgery then chemo. Have been having regular screenings. All clear until my last CT scan -- 2 weeks ago -- 2 yrs post surgery -- which showed small nodule in lung).
I'm now scheduled for surgery on 6 May, to remove the solitary nodule. The plan is to do the surgery using a scope (like laparoscopy?), which should mean a shorter, easier recovery time. I won't know if I need further chemo till after the surgery/pathology results.
So -- please think of me on the 6th! I am feeling relieved to have a date set --
Tara

I had the same kind of surgery last year for a solitary lung node. The recovery was pretty good compared to the abdominal surgery I had. Six months after the surgery they did a lung function test and compared it to my preop one and there wasn't really any change. I was only in the hospital for about 3 days. Take care & I will be thinking about you on the 6th.

best wishes Tara; tell your anesthesiolgist (SP)
to be careful of your vocal cords..I didn't have your surgery, had thorocotomy-(SP) but they damaged my vocal cord with the plactic air tube, and I had to have a subsequent surgery to remove a benign growth on my vocal cord..a simple thing like smoothing the sharp edge of the tube end could have prevented the injury. Dear Tara,
I am really praying for you and following your situation closely. I was dx in Jan 04, had chemo/radiation, surgery, chemo. It was Stage II, but an "iffy" Stage II. Now they have found a spot in my lung. I have a PET scan scheduled May 12, to see what's up. I'm afraid I know, though.
Please keep up informed on what happens in the surgery. What a journey this has to be for you after 2 years of freedom. God Bless.

Thanks for that, Barb. I've been reading a little about lung function after the surgery (long term) and your story is consistent with what I've been reading -- it really had very little impact.kickerrn said:Tara

Good luck with the PET. Fingers crossed. But, even if it is malignant, it can be dealt with -- as I have learned. Keep in touch and I will too.johnom said:Dear Tara,
