Anyone out there being treated by Ketoconazole for prostate cancer?
My father was diagnosed with PC over 15 years ago. He went through radiation treatment which led to all kinds of side effects including internal bleeding and severe case of hemorrhoids. He stopped and went through only half of the recommended treatments. For fourteen years he saw his urologist on a quarterly basis. His PSA gradually went from 2 to over 60. Even though I was concerned and questioned the urologist, he assured me that he wasn't concerned with it going up gradually. He was only concerned if it suddenly spiked. Well last year it spiked and immediately he put him on Lupron and Casodex. PSA went back down to below 1. So he was taken off Casodex but continued with Lupron. Several months ago, his PSA shot up to 15 and then 32. Immediately he was put on Casodex again. Within the last three weeks, we were told that neither Lupron nor Casodex is working any more and recommended that we see an oncologist. During the first visit to the oncologist, he ran some blood tests and recommended a CAT Scan. He said that most likely he will try the drug Ketoconazole and took him off Casodex. I have read numerous articles on this drug but found no one on this website, chat rooms, or message boards who has been treated with Ketoconazole?
Can anyone tell me what to expect?

You may want to have a look at prostate-help.org. There's a fair amount of information available there about HDK. And the "advanced" discussion group run through prostate-help.org includes a number of people who have been treated with, among other things, Ketoconazole, and could probably provide some useful input.0
