adnexal mass

hi, i had a virtual colonoscopy done last week and they asked me to repeat it, could not keep from coughing during the scan and the movement artifacts messed the test up. i am scheduled to go again on thursday. in the meantime, they sent a partial report from the first scan that says i have a 6x3cm left adnexal mass. i have been reading over your site and have come across lots of common symptoms. the most irritating one is probably the severe indigestion that i have been struggling with for the past few months. i also have a sense of fullness in my abdomen, a burning pain under my right rib cage, powerful and persistant gas that drives the kids crazy, and back and leg pain. for the last 6 weeks i have had this awful cough. i had the colonoscopy done because my mother is a colon cancer surviver and i have had rectal bleeding these last couple of months and a change in my bowels. i also have had weight gain. from reading your stories and posts, these symptoms concern me more.

i am forty three years old and had a partial hysterectomy about 8 or 9 years ago because of uterine prolapse. now i have rectal prolapse...everything seems to just drop when you get to be this age, lol.

my problem is that we are retired military and the dr assigned to me just doesn't return calls. he is getting ready to pcs and patients have never been his primary focus. he once told me to take our ten year old son to someone else because he was autistic and had tardive dyskinesia. he said that he wasn't really qualified to treat anything more than a cold..lol. at least he is honest.

when i finally do get hold of him, what tests should i demand and do you think it will be necessary to have surgery? i am thinking if it comes to that they may as well just take both ovaries out. any suggestions? i am a mom with four children that need me and really can not afford to slow down or be sick. thank you:)

    I would ask for a blood test for CA125 levels. CA125 is a protein which can be higher than normal if you have ovarian cancer. However, like me, you can have a normal CA125 but still have cancer. That is why you need to have an ultrasound and possibly CAT scan done.

    Having said that, you need to have a specialist deal with your tests. Preferably a gynaecologist/oncologist.

    If you doctor is not qualified, then I advise that you look at ways of seeing a specialist.

    Good luck with this and hope this is just a scare and whatever you might have will be benign.

    i had the second colonoscopy thursday. the dr called me on friday and said that he was having no luck in contacting my primary dr. it makes me feel better to know that it is not just me the man wont return calls to, lol. anyhow he said that there is a polyp that needs to be removed through an optical colonoscopy..so i guess i get to do the prep a third time, lol. he said that he was more concerned about the adnexal mass however. he said that it was a complex mass and needed to come out as soon as possible. he said that if i were his wife, he would recommend that i have the entire ovary removed..not to allow them to just snip it in an attempt to biopsy it for fear that it might burst and spill inside me and not to allow them to try and take a wait and see approach with it. he faxed a copy of the report to my husband and is mailing us a hardcopy and is continuing to try and contact pur primary dr. thanks for the suggestions. i meet with the primary on thursday. any other advice is more than appreciated. thank you.

    I think it is crucial that you stay firm in what you want. I do recommend to talk to a gynaecologist/oncologist. Often times we hear stories that only when women pressed for what they wanted, their condition was diaglosed. I think often times women and their concers are unfortunately brushed aside. Good luck.
