I was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer 27 months ago and have outlived my diagnosis. I lost my job due to this and have no insurance but may have some in about 5 months. My doctor wants me to get a cat scan of my brain due to trouble with dizzyness and balance and I wondered if these are typical warning signs of metatisis in the brain. I thank you for your help.

Mark...hopefully you have already had the scan and the appropriate treatment. I had a radical neck disection for SCC on the 28th of June, 2004. On April Fools Day of this year my motion started to change and within a few days I was walking around like man who had a stroke...left arm hanging more often then not and walking "shuffle foot." I saw my primary on the 7th and she got me a MRI on the 8th. Tumor on the brain. I saw my radiation oncologist who referred me to a neurosurgon. He recommended a craniotomy. I was not 100% secure with that procedure...went to Phoenix for a second opinion (I live in New Mexico). On may 3rd I had a craniotomy for removal of the tumor...they also spotted a smaller tumor further down in the brain. On May 9th they did Gamma Knife surgery on the space where they removed the tumor and also on the smaller one. I came home the next day and feel great. Follow-up MRI's every 3 months and if something shows up they will do the Gamma Knife again.

GammaKnife treatment is limited, and many folks are told that they are not a candidate for the treatment. For anyone who may have a tumor(s) on the brain or elsewhere in the body that is "inoperable", or that GammaKnife says is untreatable, there is a new, improved treatment out there called CyberKnife. It is a painless, non-invasive, no side-effects, no frame required radiation surgery. For more info, go to www.cksociety.org. I do not work for CyberKnife or any affiliation. I found it as an answer to my prayers to save my mothers life, and now I'm trying to spread the word for others that are in a hopless situation as were were in. :-)
