My wife has had 5 surgeries in the last 2 and half years. Hew Melanoma started 23 years ago on her knee. It was removed and for 20 years everything was fine, than it showed up again on the same leg about mid thigh. The James Cancer Hospital removed a tomor the size of 2 golf balls. We than did the interferon treatment for a year. Since than the cancer has move to her lungs and chest. Now they want to start her on a trail.
My question is: Has any one done a trail for Stag 4 Melaonma?

HARRYC, YES, WE HAVE BEEN ON A CLNICAL TRIAL FOR STAGE 4 MELANOMA FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS, WITH GREAT SUCCESS. BY ALL MEANS, DO WHAT YOU CAN SINCE YOU CAN CONTINUE PLUCKING THE TUMORS OUT OF THE LUNGS AND CHEST TO STOP THE MELANOMA. HOWEVER, THE BAD NEWS, JUST LAST WEEK, THE TRIAL, CANVAXIN, CANCER VACCINE THAT MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN ON HAS BEEN DOING BEAUTIFULLY FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS AND WAS ABRUPTLY HALTED LAST WEEK SITING THE LACK OF SUCCESS IN STAGE 4 PATIENTS, IT HAS GREAT SUCCESS WITH STAGE 3 PATIENTS. I DO NOT KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE, BUT I WOULD GET THE ADVICE OF DR. BILL MENDENHALL AT SHANDS CANCER CENTER TO SEE IF THE LUNGS COULD WITHSTAND THE RADIATION OF THE FLORIDA MELANOMA TRAIL AND CONTACT DR. RONALD DECONTI AND THE MOFFITT CANCER CENTER TO SEE IF YOU CAN GET HER ON JUST ANYTHING TO GET HER STABLEI. IF THIS IS NOT YOUR AREA, AND YOU ARE CLOSER TO M.D. ANDERSON IN TEXAS, DR. BROWN THERE IS A GOOD CHOICE. DR. DOUG REINTGEN AT LAKLAND REGIONAL CANCER CENTER AND CLINICAL TRAILS MAY KNOW OF SOMETHING ELSE THAT COULD STABALIZE HERE, HOWEVER, MOSTLY, AT THIS POINT, IT MAY BE CHEMO BASED. ALSO, A DRUG CALLED LEUKEIN THAT BOOST THE IMMUME SYSTEM HAS JUST BEEN MENTIONED TO US IF WE ARE UNCESSFUL IN GETTING THIS VACCINE GIVEN TO US ON A COMPASSIONATE CARE BASIS THROUGH THE JOHB WAYNE CANCER INSTITUTE IN CARLSBAD, CALIF.
WE HAVE DONE TWO TRIAl with great success, it is by far the only way to say her longterm. GOD BLESS YOU ...GO FOR IT....0
