Hi. I am new to this section. I was dx.with colon cancer in Aug.2003. Had many complications including blood clots, adhesions, pulmonary embolisms. My colon cancer was a Duke C and labeled as very aggressive. 8/20 lymph nodes positive. It was a huge mass. I finished chemo and radiation in June 2004. My oncologist started to give me procrit shots at that time in which my HGB had tumbled down to tranfusion levels. I had a bone marrow biopsy from the pelvis in Aug.2004 where it showed Pure red blood cell aplasia. I received 2 pints of red blood cells. In Oct.2004 received another 2 pints of red blood cells and another bone marrow biopsy of the pelvis this time on the other side. I was sent to Sloan Kettering to a leukemia/lymphoma specialist who had no ansers for me as to why my bone marrow is not making red blood cells. He said it could be from chemo, radiation, virus. He said he has no answers. I just had my third bone marrow biopsy from the sternum in Jan 2005. It is showing significant erythroid activity (red cell makers)however my HGb still keeps dropping every week. Apparently the white cells and platlets are normal it is just the red blood cells. I am desperate to find any answers and thought I would give this site some questions as it is a blood disorder problem. It was diagnosed as Pure Red blood cell aplasia and myeloid hyperplasia. Has anybody heard of this??? Fran
