Zometa
I looked up zometa side effects to refresh my memory - have had the STARRED ones some other times - I had navelbine and zometa and procrit on thursday - last night middle of the night, awoke with terrible pain - did not have a fever YET but along with new pain in left knee, right shoulder and ribs, I think it is the zometa. Fever now of 101.8 - will be watching it - no diarrhea - CONSTIPATION instead even with stewed prunes and Colace in generous amounts.
My herceptin finally developed into severe coughing bouts which went on until I gagged/ choked - then got a little rest but weekend before I saw doc May 24, I had a terrible weekend.I had already had a CT scan in April - enlarged heart and pleural effusion etc. but I got copy as I left and I think doc did not even read it - he was so cheerful about tumor markers continuing to go down and blood tests good - slowly had come down from 278 to 124 - Alkaline Phosphatase. He wasn't going to put me in the hospital - cardio said he was right on the mark to put me in hosp. with an Ejection Fraction of 20 - on the mark - sadly not - I had to persuade him a little.
>>What are the possible side effects of zoledronic acid?
Stop taking zoledronic acid and seek emergency medical attention or contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following serious side effects:
· an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
kidney problems (detected by blood tests); or
low levels of calcium, magnesium, or phosphorus in the blood (detected by blood tests).
**** Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take zoledronic acid and talk to your doctor if you experience
flu-like symptoms such as fever, chills, bone pain, or muscle or joint soreness or aches;
stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea; or
redness or swelling at the injection site.
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome
CT scan Tues. - bone scan Wed. and see doc Thursday. Life certainly is not boring for us and the other wonderful women on this forum.

Jean, I have been on Zometa since last Nov. Initially I had severe bone pain for 3 weeks after the IV. It has gradually decreased to the point it only causes me trouble for 3-5 days after the IV now. Other side effects have also diminished...no more fever, less diarrhea, and no nausea. So hang in there and hopefully the side effects will improve for you also. Ellen0

Sorry for the delayed reply, but I've been on vacation w/ my boys!
You're gonna flip over this one Jean...
I decided to stop my herceptin and zometa after my "allergic reaction". Zometa is very hard on the kidneys and of course doc hasn't even done a EF or MUGA scan and I've been on herceptin 3 years. Anyway, here's the kicker, I've decided to try clodronate. Email me if you want further details.

Just noticed your reply to me. If I were you, I think I'd have an echogram or MUGA scan and if ok continue on the herceptin. And add the chodronate instead of the zometa.hummingbyrd said:Sorry for the delayed reply, but I've been on vacation w/ my boys!

Now where and how are you going to get the clodronate?
Reason I think I'd stay on herceptin - you are still here after a longer time than usual for stage IV aand felt well enough or at least able to take vacation with your boys - so glad for you and your kids.
