SO SADD...

edited March 2014 in Colorectal Cancer #1
My beautiful friend and church member, female, age 52, was healthy and laughing in March. She lived a full life and had NO symptoms until she developed a fever one night on March 9. Her husband could not get the fever down so he took her to the hospital. The doc gave her antibiotics. However, two days later, the same fever. On March 11, 2004, she was admitted and had surgery. She was diagnosed with colon cancer and given JUST 4 to 6 weeks to live. The cancer had spread to her liver. She died on May 20th and the funeral was today. I don't understand how you can be so healthy one day then BAM, a terrible doctor's report.
I am soo sad. She was skinny, never smoked, and took loads of herbs, which I now hear may not be good.

Please pray for me and my strength to go on...SOOOO VERY DEVASTED.

Joyful... How can someone with that name be so sad?

Joyful, it's sad for us who go on living when someone we love leaves us, but that's what is supposed to happen. Remember, everything happens for a reason - it may make us sad, but there is a reason. It's our job to try to see the good that comes from it.

Be strong and be joyful. Your friend is at peace.

    Be well.

You have my sympathy. It can be so hard on friends and family to lose a loved one so quickly. Know that this was meant to be, and draw strength from your beliefs.
    Wishing you comfort, Judy

    Joyful,

My deepest sympathy to you and for your friend's family and loved ones. I too lost a friend and neighbor last year to colon cancer and to make matters worse, it was right in the middle of my chemo treatments for my own colon cancer. It makes us all stop and realize that we need to live every day fully. My friend ignored the symptoms (which can be ever so slight) until it was too late. She was always worried that she would bother someone. She was like that up until she died.

Your friend is at peace now and the best tribute to her you can make is to be a crusader for others to have early detection for cancer, to check out any symptom and to get treatments as soon as possible.

    Bless you for your caring.

    Hi joyful...

I wish there was the perfect thing to say at a time like this, as everything seems to be "not enough" in the way of comfort.

The fact that everything came upon her so quickly enabled her to avoid the effects of treatments (chemo, radiation, etc). The memories you keep of her will be positive, and not clouded with days of pain, bedrest, and lifelessness. She will forever be etched as a beautiful person who gave of herself effortlessly, who brightened a room simply with her presence, and who lived each day as God intended. Honestly, there is nothing more a person could ask for, though, don't you think?

You can and will get through this. Your interaction and experiences with her will allow you to carry on her spirit, and work at making everyone the best they can.

All the best for you and your family,

    Stacy

Hullo Joyful---you know, it has to be said that all of us here on this board would find it extremely difficult not to shed a tear for you and your friend. We all do in our own way--why??--we don't even know you or your friend!
BUT--we do know the heartache and pain we--as survivors and our carers hasve had to endure--and --because we are all touched by love on this board and we all---Jen and I included can relate to all you are feeling.
The pain may subside in time--but the memories and love will always be with us--for our lovedones and friends.
    Our deepest sympathy.
