My name is Chris and I am a 15 year childhood cancer survivor. I was diagnosed with a brain tumor when I was 12. I learned about the Relay For Life last year and am now volunteering on the Survivorship Committee for the Massapequa, New York, Relay For Life. The event takes place on June 12-13, 2004 from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. For those unfamiliar with Relay For Life, it is an overnight event in which survivors, caregivers, friends, family etc. walk or run around a track to raise money, promote advocacy and honor survivors of cancer. It is an event to bring people together to celebrate those who have survived cancer and remember those who have not. There will be many fun filled activities throughout the evening, as well as special tributes like the Survivor/Caregiver lap and the candle lighting Luminaria ceremony. The Survivor/Caregiver reception begins at 5:30 (registration at 5:00). A special Survivor/Caregiver lap starts the event at 7:00. If anyone is interested in participating or would like further information, please respond to this message. Thank you.
