Hello all, diagnaosed small cell lung cancer 2 months ago. I have had 2 chomo's, these 2 chomo's with the nauseau and illness for 3 weeks, has me on the fence. Also,, the only stats I could find was 1 out of 4 for survival.I am able ready to throw in the towel. I am a 57 year old woman with one child left at home. Can anyone help me,talk to me, share new information. I really want to hear success stories of any kind.

Please don't give up..there is hope..my hubby has lung cancer went through surgery and on the road back to recovery..this is his 2nd time with chemo and radiation. there is allways hope..xoxo Barb

Don't give up there is always hope and the stats are just numbers... You are a real live person not a number. 1 in 4 means that if 100,000 people have this diesease - 25,000 survive. WHy cant you be one of the 25,000? God bless and I will pray for you. My mom also has small cell - I hope that you will pray for her as well. My moms name is Debbie.

DO NOT GIVE UP! You can do it. My mother just finished chemo treatments and is doing great. Yes, it was very difficult for her. There was even a time I thought her body couldn't take much more, especially because she was sick before she even started treatment. You may feel like you are fighting this by yourself, but there are a lot of people who have survived. Hang in there!

hi , I am Mike, I have small cell lung cancer, I am inoperable , the tumor was 5 inches x 4 inches x 3 inches. It was in lymph nodes, on left lung, into lung, wrapped around my aorta artery and pushing against my esophogus. I did cisplatnum, carboplatnum, vp-16, taxol , three nine hour days of this every three weeks, and in my fourth cycle I started radiation to my chest, side and back for six and a half weeks , five times a week. I know the sickness , nausea, vomiting, burning of the throat, but if I had to do it again I would!!!! I am in remission for two years now , so please hang in there!!1 It will get better!! I am a 47 year old woman lung cancer survior. 3 years i have survived. I have felt at times of throwing the towel in...., but we have children and they deserve better.. by your example you will teach them to fight and not be a quitter. This sounds harsh, but think of them. I also will be here for you and will pray for you.

my husband onni was first diagnosed with limited small cell lung cancer early May, 3 yrs ago. He couldn't take Cisplatin, just had one day of it.
Then he had several weeks of radiation. Later, he had Tapotecan. He says it will be 3 yrs in July
of when he first started the radiation. The radiation shrunk his tumor. He's 59 now and we're waiting for the results of his latest catscan. Catscans have been negative for a while but every time is nervewracking all over again.
I hope this helps to know that treatments have worked for someone of a similar age.

We were told that onni's catscan results mean his cancer is still clear going back to spring 2002. [It's actually as I have mentioned in another post 3 yrs since diagnosis] However, we were told of different new spots on the lungs but that's apparently related to radiation scarring and emphysema. Some fatty tisssue replacment in the pancreas. So onni has had diabetes for many years, and has had the radiation, and has emphysema so maybe that explains "this n' that" but two low density lesions in the liver that weren't there before is worrisome. However, there was a question by the interpreters if they could have come from "slice selection." Several yrs ago my husband did have a botched liver biopsy and we wonder if these small lesions could somehow be related to that, but as one might imagine, there's the fear that it could be spread. However, our experts, (oncology staff), have said that they do not see any recurrence or spread of onni's original limited small cell lung disease. Maybe not all of you are into reading copies of your own scans.
