Fibroadenoma - biopsy or not?

I had a mastectomy last May. I have a fibroadenoma in the other breast and I have one physician saying I should have a sterotaxic biopsy, the other one saying I don't need it. Checked web and depending on the website you're on depends on whether or not biopsy is recommended. Anyone have similar experience? Appreciate your thoughts.

Hi Future, I had my surgery on February 6, 2003. I found the 2.5cm mass in my left breast and a mammogram cleared my right but the followup ultrasound caught a 7mm mass. I tend to error on the side of caution and wanted confirmation that a mass presenting as one thing wasn't actually something else. My radiologist agreed and biopsied both, despite confidence that the smaller mass was benign. The surgeon then wanted to do two lumpectomies but, with my high risk status, accepted my decision to have a modified radical on the left and simple mastectomy on the right. Research I've done before and since my surgery indicates there's a wide range of medical opinions on the appropriate course of action. In the end, you need to go with what gives you greatest peace of mind. Good luck.
