I have had surgery for DCIS, intermediate stage (breast cancer, the left breast) & radiation has been advised, but I am worried about the affect on my heart. Anyone out there with experience or information on radiation side affects?

Apparently you do not need chemo?
Don't worry about the radiation - most common site for breast cancer is the left side and unless you are in the boondocks somewhere, which I doubt, the radiation is very necessary and safe.

It's important to go after the few cells that could be hanging around.

Not sure what you mean by intermediate stage- the cancer - if DCIS - was still confined to the duct or not?

Good Luck! don't worry about your heart - all the doctors know what has to be avoided etc.

Hi china, jean is right. Radiation has come a long way and is amazingly precise. Ask your radiologist about your concerns and I'm certain he'll be able to reassure you. You'll do just fine and your cancer was caught so early your prognosis is excellent!
