Tumor-induced fever

I have colon cancer with mets to the liver. Relatively speaking, I am doing okay but I have a huge problem with tumor-induced fever. I was having it every day (in the 101-103 range) and Tylenol, Advil, and Indocin were not controlling it. My doctor finally put me on steroids to control the fever. It worked and I was feeling much better for a while but then the side effects of the steroids got out of hand and now I am weaning off of them and we are going to see how the fever is. I am already having low-grade fevers so I am definitely concerned. The fevers before became very debilitating and I don't want to go back to that but I can't stand these steroids. Anyone with advice on controlling fevers? Thanks!!

Wow, I know that the fever part of it all is rough. My aunt has colon cancer that has spread to her liver. The fever would just wear her out and give her the chills constancely. Her Dr told her just to keep taking Ibuprofen (Advil) so the swelling will minimize and will help the fever. She doesn't get too much of the fever anymore but it went on for months. He also gave her an antibiotic to help. She was told to take 3 advils, I would talk to your Dr first, though. Sorry, I don't know much else, maybe this will help...Good Luck and God Bless!

Thanks for the response. I am going to continue to try to control the fevers with Advil and Tylenol and avoid the steroids if I can unless I hear some other suggestions that I would run by my doctor. It is encouraging to hear that your aunt's fevers eventually have gotten better. My doctor says that as we hammer away at the tumors, the fevers will follow suit. I hope that your aunt is doing and progressively well towards remission. God bless you and your family!!
