What can nurses do to better help you?

I am an RN student and I would like to know what the nurses who care for you could do to better help you? I'm anxious to get your feedback! Please reply!

glad you asked!when my Mom was doing chemo she had a problem with her thin skin when the needle was being inserted and removed.This often left bad bruising on her forearm.Some nurses were good and careful and some seemed as though they couldn't care less.My request would be that you be very patient and considerate of elderly patients and their special needs.That would help a lot and it's nice of you to think ahead like this.Good luck with your career.Randy in Arkansas

I have been fighting cancer now for 15 years and have seen many nurses come and go.I have seen good ones and real bad ones.
This is what I can tell you on helping thos with cancer.First remember that we are human and do feel.Some of us have very tender skin during some treatments.We are not a pin coushion.Second is to talk to us.Listen to what we are tring to ask or tell you.We know what is going on with our bodies.
Don't ask us how we are feeling because we are here because we are sick.Ask us how we are doing today.It might sound like it is the same but it isn't.Help us with the Doctors too.Sometimes they only see us as the cancer and not the person.Last but not least.Just come in once in a while and be with us.A soft and tender voice does sound very good when you don't feel very good.And ask if there is anything you can do.One last thing.You might give us a huge.

Don't wear fragrances around chemotherapy patients. Our sense of smell may be heightened or distorted, and a lovely-smelling perfume may smell terribly nauseating to us. Thank you for letting me mention this.
