What can nurses do to better help you?

I am an RN student and I would like to know what the nurses who care for you could do to better help you? I'm anxious to get your feedback! Please reply!

    Dear Kitchell,
    I am a 3 1/2 year survivor of ovarian cancer and my husband is currently fighting stage 4 renal cell cancer. Having been through this 2 times and almost constantly for the past 5 years, I can tell you that oncology nurses are a rare breed. What I and my husband love most about our nurses is that they allow themselves to become as family to us. They cry over our setbacks and rejoice over our successes. They await the scan results almost as anxiously as we do. They have bent over backward to make my husband as comfortable as possible. I would say other than the wonderful physical care they give, their warm loving hearts are the next most important thing.People will say, "don't get attached", but in order to do your job right I think you have to allow yourself to love your patients. Good luck in your studies.
