Retroperitoneal Squamous cell carcinoma of undetermined origin

My 45yo wife was recently diagnosed with the above described cancer. Surgery was performed last week and the retroperitoneal mass as well as all retroperitoneal lymph nodes were removed. All showed SCC. My wife had a hysterectomy 20 years earlier. There are no signs of cancer in her colonoscopy, or gynocological exam. We have received recommendations from one oncologist and have appointments with two additonal oncologists next week. Does anyone have personal experience or information on this type of cancer? Any information would be helpful. Although very nice, the ACS helpline was fairly useless.

    I don't know if my experience will serve any purpose other than letting you know there are others out there with similar cancers, but I was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the breast last July. A second opinion called that dianosis into some question (there wre squamous cells throughout the 9cm mass, but my oncologist wasn't sure there were 'enough' to call it squamous).     I am 46 and Dec 2005 had surgery that removed a 13.5 cm mass that was around my kidney. It was also removed but was fine. They diagnosed it as retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenocarcinoma with sarcomatoid transformation mass. I have gone through 5 oncologists. My hysterectomy was in 2001. This tells me that it grew to this size within 4 years. Rarecancer.org sent me some information it is very rare and is fast growing and recurring type.
