I am a breast cancer patient and in desperate need of funds. I am afraid I may lose my house and car. When the cancer came back for the second time four months ago I was a student and was not working. Please, if anyone has any sugestions on fund raising...Thanks.

Atl2004,
I wish you the best in beating this cancer. I would recommend that you call your local social services department. You might also be able to get some assistance through various government programs (I don't know which). Health and Human Services. Perhaps your local American Cancer Society contact could help you figure out where to call. The local court house?

Hi:
Many of the women on this board have been where you are. Many have lost much. It's a heart wrenching thing but unfortunately, it sometimes
goes with the territory. Cancer doesn't differentiate and strikes those better prepared financially, those less prepared financially and those not prepared financially at all. It's difficult.
My advice is the same as IBC's. Look through the phone book and/or call your local Social Services Office, as they can often direct you to the best starting place and/or provide applications, etc.. If you have friends at work or in your place of worship, or any clubs/organisations to which you belong, talk with them and perhaps they can sponsor a fund raiser to help also.
Good luck and take good care or yourself.
Love, light and laughter,

Do you have friends that could have a benefit for you? I did, thank God! Good friends and family organized an incredible benefit at a local restaurant, people purchased tickets, and the night included a silent auction, raffle, music and food. They charged an amount to get in and then we made even more funds from raffle etc... The downside was: a LOT of work for everyone THe upside: I was able to pay for my treatment without bankrupting my family!! Maybe even something easier like a spaghetti dinner. I hope and pray you have a loving support group to help you. It is a humbling experience. But pride must be put aside, and you deserve the best possible treatment regardless of financial status. I too agree that your state must have some kind of funds for this, although there are income requirements. Call your States Dept. of Health. Best of Luck !!0
