Last week some of us were wondering about the breast cancer stamp. I sent an email to the USPS. This is what they emailed back to me. The breast cancer research stamp is a semi-postal stamp, and semi-postal stamps are generally prohibited. However, the breast cancer stamp was produced because of a direct mandate from the U.S. Congress. Comgress authorized the stamp be issued for a limited time. At this time congress has not voted to approve the stamp for 2004. It is expected to vote on the issue soon.
Maybe we will be able to buy the stamps a little later on in the year.

My husband works for the Post Office. He excitedly called home yesterday to say that Congress has approved the Breast Cancer Stamp for this year. Buy! Buy! Buy!

I went to a website suggested to me and learned that both the House and the Senate have now approved the stamp for reissuing. It is part of the Omnibus bill and just waiting to be signed by the president. Of course I dont know how long that will take but hopefully not too long. Sharon

Thanks for letting us all know that the breast cancer stamp had been approved. I am anxious to be able to buy them again.

Received this e-mail about the stamp and thought you might like to know the information

I have great news in the battle against breast cancer. Last week, Congress approved and the President signed a budget for next year that included increased funding for important breast cancer programs, and extended the Breast Cancer Research Stamp for two more years. Click here to read an update.

This victory would not have been possible without the dedication and tireless efforts of Komen Champions for the Cure(TM), like you, who wrote over 3,000 letters to Congress, signed petitions, and called their elected officials.

Now, let’s thank Congress for doing their part. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) spearheaded the effort to extend the life of the Breast Cancer Research Stamp in Congress. Just click on the link below to send a free email to Senator Feinstein, thanking her for her leadership:

    Send your thank you note.

The Breast Cancer Research Stamp is among the most successful commemorative stamps of all time. Since the program started in July 1998, the stamp has raised over $34.5 million for breast cancer research. The extension of this important program will allow Americans to continue contributing to the fight against breast cancer and raising awareness about the disease.

Congratulations on this victory in the battle to put an end to breast cancer. This would not have been possible without your efforts.
