Support Groups in DC/VA

I was diagnosed with breast cancer a little over a month ago. I've had a masctectomy and am preparing to have surgery at the end of this week to insert a port for chemo which will begin the week after. While people have encouraged me to find a support group, I hadn't really felt the need until now. I've never experienced anything like this and don't personally know anyone that has. Can anyone suggest a support group in the Northern Virginia/DC area that might help?

Call your local American Cancer Society for information, and you might find a separate listing for Reach to Recovery. Don't try to "tough it out" alone. We can all be very brave 99% of the time, but having established a safety net beforehand helps with that other 1%. I hope this helps. Love, Denise0

I go to a support group at Fairfax Hospital for women with early stage breast cancer. It meets tomorrow, June 4th and then June 18th (twice a month). Its from 5:30 to 7:00. Park at the Blue parking lot and go to the radition oncology department. The women there are great and I find it very helpful. Hope to see you tomorrow. Sandi0
