My mother had breast cancer 2 years ago and underwent a double mastectomy with tram flap reconstruction. After her surgeries she had 4 rounds of chemo and was put on tamoxifen for 5 years. She's been on it now for almost 2 years. She has been having major bloating and pain in her upper abdominal area immediately after eating. She has been to a gastroenterologist (?) and a naturapath as well as her oncologist. They recommended a colonoscopy, ct scan and and blood work to check for ovarian and other types of cancer. All of her tests came back fine and now we are trying to figure out if her symptoms are related to the tamoxifen. Does anyone have any advice or similar experience with this?? Thanks.

Hi Kim,
Sorry to hear about your mother having so much trouble. I have been on Tamoxifen for 2 years and haven't had any of the symptoms you have described. I have had severe leg cramping and some menospausal symptoms, but nothing like your mother has had. I hope you get some answers soon. Best of luck to you and your mom.

My sister had similar symptoms while on tamoxifen. She is 7 years out now and no sign of cancer. Against my judgement she stopped Tamoxifen after 2 1/2 years because of this and other symptoms as well. At that time, they were only recommending staying on it for 3 years and now it is 5 years0

I have been on Tamoxifen for 7 months. I have had some side effects as well. My stomach seems to have grown and I gained weight. The oncology nurse said she has heard these complaints, but my oncology doc said he didn't think it was related to the Tamoxifen. Just like "chemo brain", I guess they have to research this as well. I guess, your mom and other women have to pave the way for the others. God bless.0
