genetic testing- especially moms!

My mother has metastatic breast cancer- she has been fighting the recurrence now for almost a year and a half. I had genetic testing done because I wanted my breasts "cut off", so they made me see a counselor. My mom's mom also had breast cancer but she's 87 and fine. My mom was first tested for the gene mutation and she ended up having it- BRCA2. It's a 50-50 chance of passing it to your offspring. I don't have it!
I have an older brother who is expecting who I need to speak to about this because it can increase his chance of prostate cancer and he could also pass it to his children- he is expecting twins in the fall! I also had a ductal lavage which checks the cells in your milk ducts, where the disease is usually seen first. Everything was fine. I am soon to be 35 and have a 2 year old so I was really doing it for her and for the fact that after seeing what mom has gone thru- there was no way that I was going to wait for it to get me. So now I just really watch my diet and take supplements and hope for the best.
Please consider this test if you have the disease, especially if you are young, and if you have kids. Give them the option, or even your siblings. If you have this gene mutation, you basically would be getting this disease some time in your lifetime- BRCA1 I believe is earlier in life and BRCA2 is later. My mom was 55 when she first was diagnosed, and she has BRCA2. My counselor said if you have one of the mutations, it doesn't mean you will get it- but 80+% is too hig a number to do nothing about it.
I pray for all of you and that someone will find a cure for this terrible disease.
