swallowing problems

Hi! My mom was diagnosed almost 2 years ago and was given chemotherapy to "comfort her". The chemo has done miracles and she now shows hardly any cancer cells. Pretty good for a woman that was pretty much wrote off! Here's the question, she frequently has problems swallowing certain types of food--meat and bread for instance. The food seems to "get stuck" and she ends up throwing up the food and a lot of phlem. This can go on for quite some time. Has anyone else experienced this and will this be something she will always have? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi My name is Judy and am 55 and am a surviver of esophagus cancer. Had the surgery, cheom/rad. The trouble swallowing is what got me to the dr in the first place. I think your mom sure needs to have a esophoscope to see if there is blockage there. I can't stress enough how important it is to get her to be checked. They can do wonders now to relieve the blockage and get her some help however if there is a turmer etc there it needs to be addressed. Please keep us informed Judy

    I just wanted to tell you that I'm so happy for your Mom, that she has lived a lot longer than what the doctor probably told her. My dad was diagnosed with stage IV Esophageal cancer with mets to the liver this past February. The doc gave him 6 months to a year. I hope and pray he will live a lot longer. Has been on chemo weekly and the tumors are shrinking. The liver tumors are being stubborn though. If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to hear a little more about your Mom's diagnosis. For instance, had hers spread to other organs or lymph nodes, what stage was she, etc. My email is mebmiller@netzero.com.

    Thanks for replying! Mom's swallowing problems finally got her to go to the doctor's almost 2 years ago now. She has been getting chemo ever since. The tumor was too big to remove and the doctor gave her 6 months to live--that's almost 2 years ago now! Mom just had a CAT scan and it came back normal (no cancer). Could she maybe have a pollup in there?
