I'm new to the group. Was dx in Jan. 2001, underwent 4 treatments of adriamyacin cytoxin; underwent lumpectomy in June 2001 then 3 treatments of taxol and 33 radiation treatments and am now on tamoxifen. Completed radiation 11/28/2001. Finally had reconstructive surgery 11/23/02. Here's where the problem lies. The radiated tissue is not expanding. I'm scheduled for additional surgery 4/2/03 to enlarge the pocket for the implant and release the scar tissue. Has anyone else experienced this and how did your dr. handle it. TIA.

Hi Geejo, I was diagnosed in April of 2000. Had to have a mastectomy on my left side, 7 months of chemo and a month of radiation. I have had reconstructive surgeries also. They definately had problems with with radiated tissue and finally did a procedure called a subcutaneous flap, where they took skin and muscle from my back and moved it to the front to accomodate the implant. All is well and I have had no problems since...

Hi Lizzi, thank you for the info. I'm scheduled to have the pocket for the implant enlarged and scar tissue released and am praying that will work so that I don't have additional surgeries. How long did the reconstruction part take you? Geejo
