Help--radiation damage??

My Dad, who has stage IIIb non-small cell, started turning yellow last week (his eyes and skin). He just finished his 5th week of radiation. He was admitted to the hospital Sat. He was very dehydrated and had to have at least 4 units of plasma. They ran tests to see if cancer has spread to liver. CT scan showed that it has not but his liver is not working right and fluid is building up in the abdomen and chest. Before he started radiation, he was healthy (strong heart, no other complications) but he keeps getting worse. He couldn't walk by the time they admitted him. Has anyone heard of a person being "overdosed" on radiation? Would this cause the liver to become damaged? He hasn't done any chemo yet and now they say he might not be able to because of his liver.
