Dear sisters,
Today, after over a week of multiple daily "battles" with our insurance co., pointing out that the more time I spend on wasted calls to "approved" surgeons who are no longer there, who have lost privileges, who don't do breast work any longer, etc., etc. and after explaining that time is truly of the essence in my case.. I have learned that they WILL pay for my surgeon and plastic surgeon. The surgery was to be last Friday but was cancelled by the insurance.
Meanwhile, I've been counselled to terminate the pregnancy due to urgency here. That was tough. Very. I have now accepted this and know she'll come back to us at a better time. In fact, the pregnancy and other things resulting from it have convinced me that I want to take chemo. Cannot shake a stick at a 33% increase in survivor rate!
Meanwhile, we meet my new (highly rated) oncologist on Monday!
Thanks to all for support! It's been rough but it is getting better!!!
Marty (on cloud nine)((how many people are ecstatic to be scheduled for a 7-8hr surgery?!?!?)

    Hi Marty:

I fully understand being ecstatic about your surgery. First I had to find a doctor who would agree to do my surgery due to mets. Then I had to fight with my insurance company for over six weeks to approve my bilateral. My husband and I had called everyone for help (Congress, Senate, Insurance Commissioner). I can't have reconstruction due to the mets, but was just thrilled to finally be able to have the bilateral. Like you I was ecstatic. I will never forget the high that the end of the doctor and insurance battle brought.

I am sorry that you have so many tough decisions to make. I don't have any children and that has been the hardest part for me. However, for the most part I have accepted this although it still hits me at times. You are so right: she will be with you.

I hope that you have a great consultation with your new oncologist. My new doctors have made all the difference in the world. I am living proof of the fact that sometimes you have to search for the right doctor. My husband and I have been so blessed in the last year with my current doctors.

    Love, hugs and prayers!

Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. My husband and I were trying to get pregnant when he found the lump. I was ovulating that week and there was a very good chance we were succesfull. I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal one week later. My first thought.."what if I'm pregnant!!" well that of course was not an option with the chemo I was about to have to go thru not to mention the surgeries. The first thing I had to do was have a shot to terminate pregnancy. Methotrexane I think it was. I never took a pregnancy test, my doctor didnt recomend it, saying it would only cause more heartache. I have one beautiful little girl already, she is almost three and I have to make sure I am here to raise her. I dont know if you have any kids now but I do know the pain and dissapointment you are feeling. A little piece of me died that day, rather I was pregnant or not I will never know, and I will never have more kids. God blessed me with one perfect little Angel, what else could I ask for?

    Hi Marty,
I'm not sure if your getting my emails but I am so glad that things are working out for your and your insurance has finally come thru.
From your message it sound like your doc that counciled you to terminate your pregnancy is saying that because you can't have chemo while pregnant. If that is the case he is wrong, I am living proof. I know I don't know your whole situation but that is something to think about. You can have chemo while pregnant.
I hope your visit with your new oncologist on Monday goes well and you get alot of answers you might need.
Thank you so much for keeping me posted thru email on your situation and I hope and pray everything goes good. I will be thinking about you and of course will have you in my prayers.
    Love, Angel

We have to do things in a way that we can cope with everything there is to face. We can only do what is best for ourselves and know I know how hard this must be. My thought and prayers are with you and your family.
    Be good to yourself always,
