Colon Cancer HAI considered

My husband was diagnosed with colon cancer stage 4 last August. He has been on 8 months of chemo but the cancer is starting to grow again. They are talking about doing an HAI. Has anyone had this done? Any information would be helpful.

    What is an HAI? I'm sorry about your husbands growing cancer. Did they remove the tumor? Did they have a good margin? What chemo did he do?

    HAI is a Hepatic Arterial Infusion where they implant a pump and the chemo goes directly to your liver. His liver is so involved that they were not able to remove the tumors. He had 4 and 2 went away with chemo. He did Irinotecan, Leucovorin and 5FU. We are still waiting to hear about the HAI and should hear today, hopefully.

    I am sorry to hear about your husband's condition. My mom has been diagnosed with metestasis liver cancer from colon.I would like to know how well your husband coped with the Irinotecan,5-fu,leucovorin therapy. Did he suffer alot? I would really appreciate any information from you and your husband as i do not want to lose my mom.

    Hi:
    Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but we have been going through a new regimen of treatment. Bob did very well on the irinotecan, 5FU and leucovorin for about 8 months and then his cancer starting growing again. He usually had his chemo on Friday and was back to work on Monday. His job is an hours drive away also so that added to his being tired. At first they gave him Zofran to help with nausea but after awhile he threw up during treatment and they switched him to Zytril and that helped. He actually gained weight during treatment. In the last couple of weeks he had a colon resection and a chemoembolization (where they go up through groin area and give you chemo directly to your liver). They do one side at a time. He is scheduled for the other side on June 19th. After that we are hoping to have an HAI (hepatic arterial infusion) pump installed. Unless they decide on something else. I don't know about your Mom but Bob's liver is 50%+ involved with tumors right now. I hope this information helps in some way. I would be happy to talk with you any time.
