A bit ago there was discussion about taking Glutamine for symptoms from Taxol. The dosage seemed high. Does anyone have a resource or a doctor contact to verify the dosage?
Thanks!

Hi, Vicki!!
I do not have a resource other than my own oncologist to verify the dosage. I, too, thought that it seemed high....especially when I went looking for pills. I then asked my oncologist if the 10 grams three times a day was correct because that would mean taking about 60 pills a day and would be quite expensive. I also found that it was available in powder form. He told me that the powder form was probably the better way to go. He had one other patient that was taking it, so he really did not know too much about it. From what I understand, it is supposed to help the cells so that there isn't a great deal of nerve damage (the numbness in the fingers and toes). Well, to make a longer story short, I purchased a jar of powder from WebRx and mixed two teaspoons of powder with grape juice or Tang three times a day for 5 days starting the day after each chemo and I think that it has helped. It has been 4 weeks since my last chemo and that numbness and tingling in my feet and hands is very minimal. It is something that I can live with. I did find that it didn't seem to really help until just before I was to receive the next chemo. The other thing is that I didn't start taking it until after my second dose of Taxol. Wish I had known about it before so that I could have taken it after the first treatment, too. I did manage to find a place on the web that gave me some information about Glutamine. If you are interested, I will find it and let you know. (I think I came across it by doing a search on Google.com. Let me know if you want it.) I also got some information on it from our local health food store.
Hope that this helps. Are you about to start on Taxol? How are you doing? Hope all is going well. Feel free to e-mail me at anytime if I can be of any help to you.
Blessings to you today.....Wendy0
