Hello everyone! I am so excited about our Relay and I've got some great news about it as well. I was selected as the honorary chairman of our Relay this year. It is such a great honor to me and I just wanted to share it with everyone that I could. I'm kind of nervous about it as well, but am sure I will be great! My community has been so supportive of me. A few members of my community even started a fund raiser for me and my family. It is so unreal the amount of support someone recieves when they are having a rough time in their lives. I am not sure how I can ever show my gratitude to them and how thankful I am to everyone. If anyone has any ideas in how I can do this I would love to hear them. Thank you all for letting me share my exciting news! Love and God Bless you all! Carrie

I'm participating in my third Relay this Sept. I've thanked all my supporters by sending them a photo from previous Relays along with information from the Am. Cancer Society about the early detection of various cancers (i.e. breast, skin). Next year see if you can serve on the survivor's committee. The past two years we have honored our survivors by giving them medallions to wear during the opening victory lap. Congratulations. Margaret
P.S. If any of you live near Thousand Oaks, Calif. I am currently registering survivors for our Relay on 9/29. Last year we had over 150 survivors in our opening ceremonies. That first lap is very uplifting to participate in. Survivors are also able to walk in the evening during our luminaria ceremony. At that time the stadium is darkened and all the candles are lit in honor of or in remembrance of those who have gone thru the cancer experience. The candles spell HOPE and PROGRESS, words taken from the Am. Cancer Society's motto.0 -
I have been a part of our local Relay for the past 8 years. Each year just gets better and better. I am survivor chairman and organize the first lap of the relay where all survivors walk together. I am sure you all do this also. If this is your first relay it will be an experience you will not forget. Good luck and feel blessed for all your local support.
