I need your help please - ASAP. A friend of mine edits for a community news magazine and is wanting to interview me for an upcoming article on the value of the internet for research by the average person.
Problem: I can't think of all the ways I have found that are so helpful (chemo brain at work). Please give me your input on benefits of internet for health research so I can make sense to this reporter!!! Thank you all soooooo much for any help you can send. It will be for the benefit of all those who are newly diagnosed and don't know what to do. Of course, this site is number one--but I am hung up on the rest.
God bless you and keep you safe,
Hugs from Brenda

    Hi Brenda,

    www.google.com is the absolute best to ask all kinds of questions. This way I was led to so many websites - good ones - oncolink etc.- even this one from the ACS. Every time I found an article at a good site, I put it in my favorites. You should see the length of my list - I wonder if there is a limit to how many can be in 'favorites'.

    When people asked questions here, again I followed up some of their concerns at 'google' to get more info.

    You'll do fine. Tell them you are an inspiration to the rest of us because you express yourself so well, you're brave, and very helpful - tell them your friends here said so!!

    Love and good luck, Jean

    To Jean:
    Thank you so much for your kind words. It is wonderful to have a place like this to let it all out so to speak. You do a fantastic job yourself. The ladies on this site make it easier to carry this burden, because you know you are not alone! (I had already forgot about Google--thanks for the reminder!!!)
    God bless you always,
    Love and hugs, Brenda

    Thank you Cheryl;
    I love the way you put it--that is what I was trying to do to find the right words to explain what it was like to have all this information suddenly available without having to leave the comfort of your own home.
    God bless you always, Brenda

    Brenda, The internet has been my lifeline all through treatment. From the very first day I learned of the cancer, I have researched on this machine..I have used the medical dictionary many times to explain terms to me, I have gone to Google, like Jean, to find resourses. I have even used "askjeeves"....This CSN site has been the best help to me, talking to all of you about fears and celebrations has kept me on the right path. Without the internet, I would have been very isolated and uninformed. Good luck with the article. Nan

    Hi Brenda,

    Meeting new people around the world who are 'in the same boat' is wonderful - so interesting and some become like friends ' at home'.

    I met two people I wrote to on a french forum site. It was a lot of fun to finally see the persons behind the words.

    Here we make friendships as well as receive information of what others have found helpful and it's so COMfORTING to get responses of helpful suggestions or just words of encouragement.

    Hugs, Jean

    Dear Brenda, The internet is a great source of information for breast cancer. It's enabled me to ask better questions of my oncology team. It's sent me to books and journal articles helping me to make intelligent decisions regarding treatment options. It brought me to this sight where I find positive inspiration everyday. (This network of women are so generous with strategies and techniques for dealing with breast cancer!). The internet has helped to create a positive outcome for me in terms of easing the sense of isolation that a serious threat to health causes.
    You'll do great in the interview. Speak from your heart! Love, Luckyj

    Thank you Nan:
    This is one of those community health publications they give away free in doctor's offices, etc. I just wish I had found something to point me in right direction sooner. I feel I suffered unnecessarily for a couple of months before I found this site and other links. I haven't tried askjeeves yet, but I will. Thanks again. Brenda

    Dear Luckyj;
    Thank you for your response. Isn't it fantastic how a serious illness can bring complete strangers so close together. I think of each of you as a personal friend.
    I tried a local cancer support group; and only about 6 ladies were there; and each of them had not had treatments in several years; so there was not any input or advise for me. Here you reach women who are in same situation and know what your side effects are doing to you and what you can expect in future - from hair growth to hot flashes. I don't know what I would do without all of your support and inspiration!!
    Love and hugs,
    Brenda
