I do not want to bring bad news to the group but wanted to tell you that my grandmother, the cancer fighter, died this morning. Not from the cancer but from septic shock from chemotherapy. She would have done chemo no matter the risks but since I just went through this nightmare I wanted to tell you guys what to look for. My grandmother started running a fever on Monday and we called the doctor and he called in a prescription of antibiotics. She went to her chemo appointment Tuesday and thay looked at her blood work and said it was good enough to do chemo. Wednesday, she started looking bad and getting really weak. We called the doctor again who called her in more medicine. Thursday, her fever was 102 and my mother called and insisted something be done and they told us to bring her in Friday morning and they would admit her. Well, Thursday night she was delerious, collapsed into the floor and was rushed by ambulance to Fort Worth. They put her on a ventilator and she stayed on it until this morning when she passed. Septic shock is almost impossible to live through. Just know the signs before it happens. We thought she was weak from the chemo and was never told by the doctor what signs to look for or even what septic shock was. Everyone hang in there and don't loose hope she fought for 5 days with no immune system and her systems failing. Thanks to all of you for being so supportive and being here for me. You were a comfort and friends when I felt so alone. I will still check in and try to help anyone who needs me. Good luck to you all.

    Dear Shawna:
I am so sorry you have lost your grandmother. I still miss mine and she died in 1970. A good grandmother is worth their weight in gold!!! I also understand about how she died. A fried of mine lost her life the same way. So when I started taking the chemo I told my onco. about my fear of toxic chemicals and that I did not want a cure that could kill me before the cancer could. He told me he was very very careful about such reactions; because he did not want to cause any more pain and suffering than had to be. There is such a lot of worry that goes along with such a horrible disease. I pray every day that it will be God's will that the use of these toxic drugs will soon be over. Once again, you have my deepest sympathies for your loss. May God bless you always.

    Dear Shawna-

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. My grandmother, who was actually a mother to me, died in 1996 and I miss her terribly. She had lived a long life, 89 year old, but we are never ready to let go. Many times during the last 6 months of my cancer treatment I have thought of her and felt her looking down on me with love and support.
Your grandmother was very lucky to have such a loving family. Take care of yourself and remember that your grandmother is now your own special angel. You and your family are in my prayers.
God' peace and love to you-
    Mel in Ark.

Shawna, I'm saddened to hear about your grandmother. Thank you for warning the rest of us about the symptoms and danger of septic shock. You and your family are in our thoughts.
