I was diagnosed with non small cell cancer in September 2000. I've had carboplatin and taxol twice then I received 36 radiation treatments. The chemo helped shrink my largest mass but the radiation did not work. I am now wondering where I'm going from here. If anyone has a similar cancer I would like to chat.

I was diagnosed with NSC lung cancer 5-12-00. I had 12 carboplatin and taxol which shrank tumor from approximatly 51/2 x 51/2 cm to 4 x 4 cm, which is not a great success. I then had lower right lobe removed 8-19-00
followed by 6 more carboplatin and taxol before starting radiation. I have
just completed 36 radiation treatments and have not yet had my new CT
scan. Am told we will wait approx. 4 weeks.

Good to hear from someone else who is going thru a similar cancer. Had my CT after radiation and it did nothing, now there're doing nothing but waiting for it to grow. I'm scared they should be doing more? Any thoughts on this? I hope your CT comes out well, and the mass shrinks to nothing..Wouldn't that be great!!I'm in Wisconsin, how about you? Please write back I'd love to have someone to chat with that's going thru the same thing.

Well hello in Wisconsin. I am in Washington State. I wish I could help you more. I have had surgery and the radiation was to the surgery line. The waiting is just terrible, you almost feel better during treatment because it feels like something is being done. Such a nasty thing this cancer is and when its lung cancer you feel like such an outcast. I am 57-quit smoking in 1993 and was counting the years when my lungs would be like new, I think they say 10-15 years. Have your doctors mentioned clinical trials to you.

Nice to hear from you. I quit smoking when I was 59, I'm 61 now. The chemo and radiation I received was a clinical trial. The radiation just didn't work. So were they able to surgically remove all of your cancer? I just made an appointment at Mayo Clinic to see a lung oncologist there. Maybe they can do something to help the cancer I have. My appointment is April 9-10.
