Dear Jerry, I read your e-mail and I understand your apprehension about this procedure. It is not a definite thing that your wife will get lymphedema. Only 10% of patients who have this type of surgery do. I would definitely want to know if there were any cancerous cells left, so my opinion would be to do the surgery. I live with lymphedema everyday and it is not fun but I am coping with it. Discuss all the possibilities with your doctor and read all the literature you can get your hands on. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your wife through these trying times. Shirley
