Hi All. Thanks for the words of encouragement regarding my first chemo treatment. Thank goodness my Dr. is really into prevenative meds. He gave me Anzemet/Decadron IV before chem and sent me home with a prescription for Zofran and Compazine. Felt great the day of chemo almost hyper I suppose it was from the Decadron. I ended up eating a whole pint of Grater's Mocha Chocolate Chip that night. After that it was all down hill. I did'nt actually throw up but felt like I had morning sickness every time I tried to eat. Nausea meds knocked me out all I wanted to do was sleep. Nothing tasted right for days afterwards.I also could'nt stand the feelings of depression. This is not something I am accustomed to. I am usually a very up beat person with a good sense of humor(or so I've been told).I mean I have beat cancer once right. Had Hodgkin's in 1986 and was treated with radiation. The depression only lasted for about 4days but it was awful. At least now I have a reprieve for a few weeks before my next treatment.I go today for some bloodwork I hope everything is OK I am a little worried about how I am going to be able to handle this chem since my immunity is'nt the greatest to begin with. They took out my spleen when I had Hodgkin's.I am also a nurse in a long term care facility and wondering about how to keep from getting infections.I know hand washing is the best way but sometimes there is just not a thing you can do. I really don't want to walk around with a surgical mask on. All replies are welcome. Thanks Mindy :)

Hey Mindy, sounds like your chemo treatment went pretty normal! I got really depressed too with my chemo, so finally I sucked it in and asked my Dr. for an antidepressant, I despise taking pills, but sometimes you just have to. I am now taking Paxcil, it is a mild antidepressant, does not leave you in zombie land, and it really works. The wired out feeling is from the decadron, I had that too, i had to take it 12 and 6 hours before my chemo, so it was usually just before bed then again in the middle of the night, yeah, that was fun, I would wake up in the morning just wired and shaking, totally screwed up, but it only lasted the day.Zofran is great for nausea, you may find that after a few treatments your nausea may lessen. My biggest problem was being tired, but I just slept it off, and then was up and at 'em again. It will be over before you know it, and you will forget all about the sideffects !!
Take care and Fight The Good Fight!
    Hugs from Tiger xo

Mindy - You can do it. Just take one day and enjoy it then the next. Love - Deb

Take it one day at a time MIndy. As for the infection risk. Try taking bovine colostrum (I'm always beating this drum but it works) in mega doses. It really does boost your immune system and helps bring white counts up again quickly. As you say you did it once you can do it again. Get Tiger to do another of her naked dances (she'll be exhausted soon) for you. LOve & thinking of you. Pam.
