Well it's May 18th and the Doctor activated my AUS today. I'm DRY, for the first 20 months, It feels GREAT. It's a little funny useing a pump to go to the bathroom, but I can handle it to be Dry. If this has been suggested as a treatment, Go for it. Good Luck.meadc said:I have just had a AUS implanted. I am in the healing process. It will be activated on May 18th. I have been having a terrible problem with incontinence and am contemplating having a artifical urinary sphincter implant. How are you doing now long range? Any problems along the way? Thanks for your comments.meadc said:Well it's May 18th and the Doctor activated my AUS today. I'm DRY, for the first 20 months, It feels GREAT. I have had my implant now for 14 months and I have had NO problems. I do have to wear a pad a day. I seem to leak more if I sit on an unpaded chair. My Dr. says he can put in a smaller cuff, if I want it, but he doesn't think I should at this time. I'm taking his advice. I believe it was the right thing to do and if I do have any problems, I WILL go under the knife to make it work as it has so far. Afriend of mine just had an implant done and it has not been activated yet. Let you know how that one works out. Best of luck Meadcgrandad said:I have been having a terrible problem with incontinence and am contemplating having a artifical urinary sphincter implant. How are you doing now long range? hello meadc, the message artificial spyhincter is old, hope you are still responding. I had a sphin. impl but having some problems with discomfort after about 4 months. Stinging and aching in the scrotum and underside of the shaft. My doc says to hang in there and it will get better. any thoughts you (or anyone) can share with me? thanks, flbikermanmeadc said:I have had my implant now for 14 months and I have had NO problems. I had my RP December 22, 2003. During the following 6 months I had two dilations in the hospital OP surgery to allow my bladder to empty completely, very slow stream. Finally in August 2004 I had 'corrective surgery' to again open the sphincter which had partially closed due to injury during the RP ...then I had almost NO control and had to wear several maxi pads per day. March 29,2005 I had the AMS 800 AUS implanted, and believe or not, I watched every detail of the procedure because my doc set up a monitor for me. That was interesting, to say the least. What is GREAT about that procedure is the 100% success (dryness) when the doc set the operation into action April 29, just one month later. Although I am only one week into being completely dry (yes, I wear a panty liner 'to be sure') I can hardly contain myself for the freedom and security I feel. Sure, it's a bit odd to manipulate the gadget when I feel the need to pee, it's an unusually comforting experience to ...be dry while going about everyday life activities.flbikerman said:hello meadc, the message artificial spyhincter is old, hope you are still responding. I recommend every post RP person with incontinence problems to consider this proven effectual device.
Anyone wishing to talk with me about my experience is invited to email me at 'bandonpaul03@yahoo.com' and we'll arrange a personal phone conversation.
There is a better way to handle post RP incontinence.

Hi
I've just joined this site. Biopsy confirmed PCa 2004 then RP in Oct 2009 Gleason 3+4=7 stage pT2 margins negative. So all good except for ED and incontinence ever since: 4 pads daily. Too alcohol is a disaster; somehow the brain just doesn't get the message!
Now thinking of AUS. Can I ask how this gadget affects one's sex life. I use a VED but am worried about impact on scrotum.
The other thing is that apparently the AdVance male sling is considered by some to be superior to the AUS. Any views on that?
Great site.

Did you notice that this thread has been inactive since 2005? Several later threads have dealt with the AUS 800. They have much information from people who have chosen the AUS. I like the idea of the AUS and would have chosen it myself except for the fact that I am an elderly man (almost 86). I decided not to go that route primarily because of age.
Good luck to you.

6 weeks after implant and told to come back in 4 weeks more. my uro is one the best in australia and put the pump upward in scrotum --not down at bottom of sack. I was asked to ,daily , pull down on apparatus-before next visit. i have an idea of proceedure, but would appreciate any help from csn members. I am not yet very familiar with this site so hope i can find any replies. Thanks, sydmack.0 -

I am almost 1 yr post RP & just completed a 2nd Urodynamic study. MD rx is AUS as I also have a bladder that wasn't functioning properly befor RP and also because I have a DX of MS since age 30 which likely is adversely effecting bladder function. AUS seems to have worked for you. Do you still feel a normal urge to urinate or do you have to just simply periodically empty your bladder?0
