    Hey Barb
Sounds so good. Yum. Probl;em I'm having is if I can stand the smell (not often) of something cooking, everything taste like .... well .... unless it's really sweet or very spicy. I'm going to try some turkey though. Last time I ate eggs they tasted like dead baby chickens. I hope that turkey doesn't tast like a dead bird. Imagine that!

Lori how a dead bird taste?
    LOL!
    and HUGS.

    Hang in there kid!!
I've had a bad reaction as well to the Oxiplilatin on Novemeber 10th, and it was so bad for me that I can no longer take it, (this would have been my 14th treatment on it) so I'm back on the irrectecan as of Wednesday this week...

That very morning of the reaction, I kidded my Onclolgist on the 10th after she told me my lab work numbers looked good by saing to her: "So you're gonna send me to the chair today" !!! She cracked up like I had never seen her do!!!

And then of course I had the severe alergic reaction to the oxiplilatin that afternoon...

So Wednesday this week, I had my wife resereve that very chair with my jacket on it because even though I was going back to "the chair"... I've learned in life that instead of running from your fears to run towards them...and I did...

And yesterday with my 5-fu pump I went to my cabin in the woods built a cozy crackling fire inside and listened to the cold rain outside in the Northern Pennsylvania Mountains...and I was glad to have the experience...hope all of you are doing well...

    Your "FriendinPenn"

    Hi Friend
It's good to see you posting. Sorry your reaction was so bad. That part of my post that I put Blah, blah, blah??? that's when the doc was talking about risk of death and all that fun stuff ... blah, blah, blah.

Bout your chair? I have been allowed to have my own designated chair too. I always take the one closest to the emergency exit, which fortunately is also the one right in front of the nurses station. One thing I do, but don't remember doing, during a reaction is stand up. Part of it is because it feels like my body is on fire but of course the nurses joke that I'm going to make a break for the exit and the next time they are going to strap me into my seat.

You should post some pix of your cabin on your expression page. It sounds wonderful. I was raised a southern, midwestern, native American, Italian girl (don't they call that a heinz 57 for short?) and I do miss the homey things like nature, woods, lakes, cabins and farms since I left for the big city experience of L.A. as a teen. Nothing better than nature, peace and a fire on a cold rainy day. I really miss my childhood on my granddaddy's farm. I actually remember the day they put a bathroom inside and the outhouse just became a part of the lanscape and not the place that you had to get dressed in coats and boots to weather the snow when you had to go so bad in the mornings. I think it is probably one of my earliest childhood memories as I must of been about 3 years old.

I'm just curious since your not doing the oxy anymore. How much different is it with just the 5FU? Since I may have to drop the oxy myself, I'm thinking it might be a lot easier. I have a lot of side effects but, I can't be sure which is the oxy and which is the 5FU.

I'm still debating having turkey ... I need to make up my mind before Monday though as by Tuesday I won't want to do anything. If I commit to it by Monday then I have to follow through because I'm like that. ha! HUG to you Ann, you're such a great support, I appreciate it.

    Turkey Day
Thankfully my oncologist is letting me skip a week so that I can enjoy Thanksgiving plus it turned into a nice three weeks in between chemo's...good luck

    Treatment
Sorry that you are having such problems with the treatment but that chemo can be some hard stuff. My CEA went up on chemo too, but my doctor said it can do that and it did go back down. Hope you are able to enjoy your turkey. Waiting all year for it and then not being able to taste it would just not be fair. Hope you do well on Monday.

    Kim

    Hey Kim
Thanks for the well wishes. I hope you are doing well. It's always good to see a post from you.

I'm even getting sick of my favorite teas. waaaaah But, after a few days I can go with sweet or spicy foods. It's like sugar or chili peppers kill the dead animal taste. It's funny but, I was vegan for 3 years and everything (not just meats)tastes the same way meats smelled when I wasn't eating them. Very gamy and dead. Weirdest thing to have that come back only in a taste instead of just the smell. It's just not very appetizing.

    Yuck
Could you imagine, tasting the feathers? That's one thing when eggs cook when I'm doing chemo, it smells like chicken feathers burning. What's up with that?
But, Ann, if it were live chickens you could always use the feet as toothpicks!

    Thinking of you...
broiled potatoes on a four tortilla were my salvation...save the turkey until you can enjoy it. I was in the hospital two turkeys ago, and we had Thanksgiving when I got out.

BUT I can't stand turkey, I go for the sides!

    Take care!

Turkey is so yummy! I am not American, either. The little birds I have had tend to be bony; turkey is so moist when cooked properly.

    Hey that's a great
idea ... I think I'll put a smiley face sticker on my liver so next time he goes to palpitate it, he'll be caught by surprise!

    G'day lori
I'm glad I did not have some of the modern chemos(the old ones did more than enough damage).Every second week I took a drug called levamisole and it was vile and I mean puke for hours vile. The only food I could stand was instant rolled oats made on milk with a hearty dollop of honey. I had the dubious distinction of being one of the few to get fat on chemo.:) Ron.
